The history of Marseille marked by jazz music

It is not a coincidence if the Jazz Festival of the 5 Continents takes place in Marseille. The jazz movement appeared in Marseille during the interwar years and the American presence in the Goudes (one of Marseille’s most beautiful part) and the fact that the Fitzgerald family lived in the city has promoted jazz culture in Marseille. Even the famous jazzman Louis Amstrong payed a visit to Marseille in 1946 !
